Project Oslo National Academy of the Arts exhibition

The Oslo National Academy of the Arts as an exhibition space
Our collaboration with the Oslo National Academy of the Arts has involved several sub-projects on exhibitions and displays. For example, we designed various free-standing display cabinets for exhibiting works/products created by students.

The sculpture of St John is owned by the National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design but has been lent to the Oslo National Academy of the Arts. It was previously displayed in the entrance lobby at the Academy of Fine Art. When the Oslo National Academy of the Arts moved into its new premises the sculpture was put on display in the entrance hall, protected by a discrete construction made from glass and standoffs, designed by Kaels Studio and approved by the curator.

One of Norway’s most distinguished graphic designers, Kai Gjelseth has amassed a large collection of objects and texts. He was recognised when the Oslo National Academy of the Arts moved into its new premises with a 12.5 m2 permanent exhibition of his office in curated form. Kaels Studio created the exhibition design and the display cabinet that houses it in close collaboration with Kai Gjelseth himself.

Exhibition architects, graphic designers and a curator were hired in for the 2011 degree show at the Department of Design at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts. Kaels Studio was asked to create a framework for the physical exhibition. Some of the production took place in a carpentry workshop and some was carried out by the students themselves. Among the specially designed items were display tables in varying sizes. Your Friends / Sletten & Østvold created the graphic profile of the exhibition.
